Who you are agreeing with
Casewire is published by its developer, a company registered in Estonia. Using the app or this website means you accept these terms. If you do not, do not use them.
Your licence
You get a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use Casewire on devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial use. You may not copy, resell, sub-licence, reverse-engineer or redistribute the app, and you may not scrape, mirror or re-publish the case bundle as a dataset or a competing product.
What the reporting is — and is not
Casewire aggregates published journalism, court records and public documents. It labels each development by how it is sourced and links to whoever reported it. It does not verify claims, conduct investigations, or assert that anything is true.
- A label such as “corroborated” is a statement about the reporting — how many independent outlets carry it — not a statement about the world.
- Nothing in Casewire is legal advice, and nothing in it should be treated as a finding of guilt. Where a person has not been convicted, the app says so; please read it that way.
- Reporting can be wrong, and cases move. If you find something inaccurate, out of date or unfair, tell us at support@casewire.app and we will look at it before anything else in the inbox.
Other people’s work
Articles, films, images and documents linked or embedded in Casewire belong to their publishers. Casewire shows a publisher’s thumbnail as theirs, credits them, plays their video through their own embedded player, and opens their article on their own page. We claim no ownership of any of it, and we do not re-host it. If you are a publisher and want something removed, write to us and we will act.
Subscriptions and renewals
- Casewire is free to download and free to read. Premium is a subscription, offered monthly or yearly. The price and any free trial are shown in the App Store before you confirm, in your own currency — that is the price you pay, and it is the only one that binds either of us.
- Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. Cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends, in your App Store account settings — we cannot cancel it for you.
- If you start the trial, we remind you before it ends. Cancelling during the trial costs nothing.
- Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. Tell us as well if something went wrong; we would rather fix the reason.
- Court records, public documents and the whole Nightstand catalogue are free on every plan, and we will not move them behind the paywall later. What Casewire carries on a given case depends on what has been published about it — the promise is that none of it is charged for, not that every case has a filing.
Acceptable use
Do not use Casewire to:
- harass, threaten, identify or track any person named in a case;
- republish the case bundle, or present our labels and summaries as your own;
- interfere with the service, its content delivery, or anybody else’s use of it.
Casewire has no user-generated content, no comments and no submissions, deliberately. An open theory box on a product about real deaths is a defamation engine.
Availability and changes
We may change, suspend or discontinue features. If a paid feature is removed permanently, we will say so and deal with subscriptions fairly. The catalogue changes as cases develop and as coverage appears or is corrected; a case being added, expanded or amended is normal operation, not a defect.
Liability
Casewire is provided “as is”. To the fullest extent permitted by law we exclude implied warranties and are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for decisions taken on the basis of reporting published by third parties. Nothing here limits liability for death, personal injury or fraud caused by us, or any statutory right you have as a consumer.
Law and disputes
These terms are governed by Estonia law. If you are a consumer in the EU or UK you keep the protection of your local mandatory rules and may bring a claim in your own courts.
Apple
This agreement is between you and the developer of Casewire, not Apple. Apple has no obligation to provide support for Casewire. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.
